My choreographies are not what one could call emotional dance. They are not under any circumstances hysterical or exacerbating. They are not geometric either. It is a balance between all these elements. It is vital for me to choreograph to bring to those who live the dance with me, and to others through us, the means of tasting humanism, the unspoken intelligence, which the dancers offer. If the bodies themselves are violent, it is only to engender love and to achieve a gentleness. A gentleness that risks becoming the greatest provocation of this century. I don’t ask the question, “Why do I choreograph?” I do and that’s all. Philippe Tréhet
