On entering the building of four floors, the visitors, one after the other, discover in succession, four worlds that present so many similarities between them, that the personalities of the inhabitants must offer the differences.

To enter this building, it is to recognize from the ground floor, some of our gestures, from the more familiar to the ones marked with spirituality. It is discovering the complexity of humans, faced with the mysteries of human nature. It is wandering through a gallery of portraits and points of view on the different ways of comprehending our humanity.

The crucible of a personal vision of the world, real and sacred, is embodied in the sensitive, permanent intersection in space and time, in the form of a choreographic work which is simultaneously always questioning the dance.

To cross the threshold of this residence, is to also invest in a creative thought process of the same architecture as ballet. It is to weigh up all the components at our disposal (the sound, the light, the personalities), to build our own world. These elements justify and underline the elaboration of the work. To cross the threshold of this residence, is to go behind the scenes and catch a glimpse of the personal world of the artist, this world of possibilities that constitutes choreographic language.

“Quatre Etages”* gives rise to four pieces of choreography, each with its own style, simultaneous options of language and life.

* four floors

First floor - 9 dancers
Duration : 15 minutes

The man faces nature.
A free and easy dance, full of water and oxygen, abstract,
of a simple beauty.
A sort of tribute to all forms of life.

Second floor - Duet
Duration : 10 minutes

A man lives with an angel, an angel with whom he speaks,
with whom he dances, an angel who was once a man.
The man must now live alone. He can’t find anymore
the strength or reason to continue to live,
after the death of the beloved.
Then the angel returns to move time along,
he shows the way of life, he gives back confidence,
he retraces the past, he incites the man to dance
in the shadow of the memory of the beloved.
In this way, he accepts the pain of loss
as a means of retaining the power of love.

Third floor - Duet
Duration : 10 minutes

The memory of lost love is shown.
It is thanks to an almost primitive movement that the couple
find themselves once again in a daydream.

Interval : 10 minutes

Forth floor - 9 dancers
Duration : 40 minutes

Nine people find themselves together this evening
and they exchange their differences. Four couples and their host,
tell and retell their stories with more, or less modesty, strength, rupture or harmony.
Here, their relationship to each other is being continually questioned.
Despite certain obvious impossibilities,
it is the faith in humanity that drives the story of these four couples
and this man who receives them.
